GRADING

Assignments: There will be a series of assignments during the course of the semester.  These are primarily intended to give you hands-on experience with  examples of what we are covering in lecture.  These will not be as involved as the problem set but will be important in helping you develop the skills and knowledge to tackle the problem set(s).

Problem Set: There will be at least one problem set, depending on the speed of the class and material covered. Late problem sets will be accepted with a 10 percent penalty per day. ALL work to be handed in must be typed.

Exams: There will be two midterms and a final exam which will be a combination of true/false, multiple choice and maybe even short-answer essay style questions. Announced and unannounced quizzes pertaining to topics covered in previous lectures and the reading material may be given periodically.

Participation: Attendance and participation in the class improves the quality of the class for everyone. While it will not be mandatory to attend class, attendance will be taken periodically. Active participation is encouraged and rewarded.
