Abstract:
The boat ramps shapefile (.shp) was created for use in the Boater's Guide to Barnegat Bay and Little Egg Harbor.

It was generated from the existing Arc/Info coverage "JANCOVER" that included both boat ramp and pumpout
station locations in Barnegat Bay and Little Egg Harbor. "JANCOVER" was created from GPS point data
collected by Jan Larson of Rutgers University Cooperative Extension of Ocean County in the Fall of 1998. This
data was then diffentially corrected at CRSSA by Andrew Hendrickson and exported for use in a GIS.  "JANCOVER"
was subsequently editted for accuracy through a process of ground-truthing and digital orthophotagraphy comparison,
resulting in some movement of the point locations.
Purpose:
Siting boat ramps in Barnegat Bay and Little Egg Harbor was one of the main objectives of the Boater's Guide. The
need to create a new boat ramp shapefile (as opposed to using NJDEP's existing "BOATRAMP" coverage) was
justified by the existing coverage's apparent inclusion of private boat ramps.

"JANCOVER" was created from GPS point data collected by Jan Larson of Rutgers University Cooperative Extension of
Ocean County in the Fall of 1998. This data was then diffentially corrected at CRSSA by Andrew Hendrickson and
exported for use in a GIS. The reselected 'bramp' points were subsequently editted for accuracy through a process of
ground-truthing and digital orthophotagraphy comparison, resulting in a slight adjustment of some point locations.
