Pennant Showcase
Rutgers Pennant Carried On Space Shuttle


Astronaut Mario Runco carried a Rutgers University pennant with him into space during STS-44. The mission on the shuttle Atlantis began on 24 November 1991 and ended 1 December 1991. During that time, the shuttle Atlantis orbited the Earth 109 times, travelling over 2.9 million miles.

The Rutgers pennant and a STS-44 crew patch that were carried on Atlantis during the mission were presented to Rutgers University after the flight. The pennant and crew patch are now housed in a showcase in The Mabel Smith Douglass Library of Rutgers University. Details from the showcase can be viewed below.
